In the land of (relatively) cheap gas and expensive trains, renting a car is often the most appealing option. For longer journeys, normally the airlines win with fast and efficient services. Traveling by bus in the US.

It is difficult to tell whether this is justified or not, the bus service in the US has a rather tarnished image and many consider the services to be at the base level only. The truth is, if you want to travel around the States on a luxury bus then it is perfectly possible if you choose the right carrier. The bus industry in the United States is dominated by Greyhound, which is the only bus company with service nationwide. There are a couple of other large names, such as: Trailways and Coach USA but these are just networks of smaller privately owned carriers that have decided to share the same livery and marketing arrangement. Moreover there are many well-founded bus service companies who work at the regional level but have to take the help of Greyhound on some routes.

If you are traveling on a budget you may also have the option to use what is referred to as a ‘Chinatown Bus’ which operate at the budget end of the spectrum running routes that can be sustained through the large volume of travelers they have. Initially these companies used to cater to the commuting needs of Chinese immigrants but gradually its services are being taken to a wider range of customers as well. At the other end of the market are the companies that are trying to compete directly with the airlines - providing a much more luxurious way to travel. If you are someone who is no further than about 6 hours from your destination, this option may appeal as this type of bus service offer and excellent 1st class service so you will not feel as if you are traveling ‘budget class’.

So how can you make up your mind when you need to travel by bus? To get an answer to this question, try answering the questions which appear below: What is your budget? If you are on a tight budget you won’t be able to beat the bus for price. It is by far the least expensive way to get between destinations in the U.

Do you think once you reach your destination you will require a car? S.

What most people don’t realise is just how much time is wasted at airports ‘waiting’ and of course there are the increased security checks so for journeys of under 6 hours, the bus is the best bet. Another advantage is a bus will likely have stop-off points in the center of the city and not on the outskirts like you experience at an airport.

What is your destination? Remember most of the people in the US find traveling by bus more convenient even if it is to the remote area of the country as this is the only viable means of pub transport. Some people prefer the more sedate form of travel afforded by a bus especially when they are in no hurry. This also means that if you are in a hurry, the bus not be the quickest way for you to reach your destination especially if it is over 6 hours away. Thus if you take the picture in its entirety, whether you are planning inter city travel or thinking of traveling to remote sectors, traveling by bus is definitely the more superior option. With fuel prices rising and reduction of train services it could be one of the most common ways move around.
